What will the weekend hold?

Does anyone else think Mario Gomez looks spookily like George McFly from Back to the future?

Hello and welcome to today’s weekend preview, the picture is a tad unrelated but I found it on the internet and had to share… Onwards with the post!

I was disappointed that on Thursday Newcastle couldn’t get a win in a bore draw against Metalist Kharkiv at home. We had two perfectly good goals disallowed outrageously and for me it just further strengthens the dire need for video replays. Still, we go to face the Heavy Metalists in Ukraine for the second leg next week and let’s hope we can get a result despite their very loud music…

I think posting my predictions for the weekend on a Saturday is a bit of a risky business as I could look very stupid this afternoon but let’s hope I get it mostly right…

Unfortunately there’s no Six Nations to speak of, a rest week in action until we resume next Satruday. Unfortunately, Gordon D’Arcy, one of my personal favourite players, has been ruled out of the rest of the championship and this could hurt Ireland, although Keith Earls has looked strong off the bench.

England are starting their ODIs against New Zealand on Sunday and I expect them to win 3-0, as New Zealand are currently in absolutely appalling form, below Bangladesh in the world rankings. They also lost the Twenty20 series to England, being thrashed in the last match by 10 wickets.

In the football, I expect Arsenal will thrash Aston Villa at home and QPR will take a similar drubbing when they host Manchester United. Van Persie will continue his frankly frightening season with a brace in my view. I predict that the out of form Chelsea will take a shock win when they go to the Etihad Stadium, with Hazard playing especially well. This would just about finish off Manchester City’s tilt at the title. Southampton are traveling up to Newcastle for the longest distance match in the Premier League and I hope our French contingent will give Southampton les bleus with a convincing win.

Not an awful lot of golf to speak of, but I noticed the old favourite Sergio Garcia has started brightly at Riviera Club with a polished round and I won’t be alone in once more tentatively suggesting that he could come good for the Masters? The poor Spaniard never seems to fulfil his potential on the largest stages.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed the post, please remember to like and follow if you liked ti and want to see more!

  1. That’s a great look-alike! I’ll add “Looks like George McFly” to my list of things I know about Mario Gomez 🙂 http://blobsite.net/2012/12/08/mario-gomez-cha-cha/
