Weekend Review No.10- Sunday on Sunday

February 10, 2013

Hello and welcome to another review of a packed weekend’s Sport. On the dock today are Football, Rugby and the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Firstly to my Newcastle United, who were unfortunate to come up against Gareth Bale and supporting cast. His great form nicked him both goals either side of our new signing Gouffran’s equalizer. Manchester United forced the fat lady to begin her warm up vocals perhaps as they strode 12 points clear thanks to a comfortable win against Everton and an awful Manchester City loss. Chelsea also looked as if they might be returning to form with a masterful performance to beat Wigan 4-1. In South Africa, those infuriating vuvuzelas have been in full force at the African Cup of Nations. Unfortunately, the Burkina Faso fairy tale has come to an end in spite of the loss and sudden reinstatement of their talisman Pitropia. However it was a fantastic tribute to the power of sport to watch the minnows rise so far. I also loved that Sunday Mba gave Nigeria their Sunday win.

In the Rugby Six Nations Scotland beat Italy convincingly to ensure that only England can now gain the Grand Slam. They themselves further asserted their credentials with a gritty win against Ireland with the ball behaving like a bar of soap. France continued their disappointing campaign and further showed how wrong my original prediction of a title for them was by losing to the hopefully resurgent Welsh dragons. I still envisage a win for them when they visit Twickenham- ever the optimist I am.

The female Cricketers kept their hopes of World Cup glory alive by thoroughly hammering South Africa- the entire match was over in under 40 overs! Our performances have been suspiciously weak compared to the assertive dominance we’ve come to expect from this side. I would tip Australia to take the win now, which might go some way towards counterbalancing all the doping controversy back at home.

Thanks for reading the review of this action packed weekend. Please like and follow if you enjoyed it and would like to see more!
