Weekend Review No.8- Giantslayers!

January 29, 2013

Sorry for being two days late on this review, my internet provider decided to take my internet away for the weekend (not sure where). On the positive side, there’ll be consecutive blog posts on consecutive days!

It can’t be difficult to judge the main topic of my post of the weekend- the FA Cup! The slightly depleted cup is truly going through a resurgence this year. Oldham secured a historic victory against Liverpool, MK DONinated QPR 4-2, Luton managed to scrape past Norwich, Leeds rolled back the years to beat Tottenham and Brentford even secured a replay at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. Any doubters of the magic of the cup have been dispelled by this superb 4th round. Coupled with Bradford’s glorious rise to fame and the Carling Cup Final,  it’s all great entertainment for the onlookers that may have been knocked out at earlier stages (Newcastle). However, our own attempts to sign the entire French national side are gathering pace, 5 have arrived so far in January and there could be another on the horizon before the window slams shut on Thursday.

The tennis had a disappointing end as the SCOT Andy Murray lost his 5th grand slam final to the seemingly omnipotent Djokovic. Meanwhile, despite the growth of the teenagers such as Sloane Stephens in the women’s competition, the screecher Victoria Azarenka stole the spoils from an injured Li Na.

The cricket ended with England winning a dead rubber but India showed why they are arguably the leading ODI team in cricket at the moment by clinching the series 3-2. Ian Bell appeared to be the only player on the England side that remembered how to play cricket throughout the series but sadly his contribution was not enough.
