Weekend Review No. 6- Pits of despair

Err.. I think that might be the wrong way Jonny….

It was not a good weekend to be Jonathan Walters. Nor was it a good weekend to be one of his family members. Nor anyone who knows him. Why? Because against Chelsea he had a singularly bad match. This was astronomically poor. Past the level of ‘bad day at the office’ and into the realm of ‘investigate him for match fixing’. Two own goals, a missed penalty, and to add insult to injury, he hit himself in the face with the ball whilst attempting to clear.

Aside from that disaster, there were some other interesting developments in sport. England edged out India in a thrillingly high scoring cricket match, mainly thanks to some classy batting from Ian Bell. Neil Robertson came back superbly against Ding Junhui in the Snooker Masters to win 6-5, although I still tip the maverick Judd Trump to win that. Finally, Owen Farrell showed that he’s rather good at that  kicking lark with 10 penalties and a conversion in Sarcens’ win over Racing Metro in the rugby.

Back to football and thanks to a highly dubious decision from the referee, Manchester City scored their first victory at Arsenal in 38 years. Arsenal are really in trouble at the moment and severely need to pick their game up. Van Persie won his personal battle with Suarez by scoring in Manchester United’s 2-1 win against Liverpool that consolidated United’s 7 point lead at the top of the table.

Lastly, Newcastle had a decent week. NOT. As if we were trying to self-destructively prove that we could get worse than losing to brighton, we coupled a bore draw to Norwich with our captain, Coloccini, asking to leave. On the bright side, Debuchy looked alright on his debut and we seem to be *cross those fingers* closing in on Loic Remy.
