Wednesday Debate No.3- Diving

December 12, 2012

It’s been in the news recently with the outrageous Santi Cazorla dive securing victory for Arsenal at the weekend, so I thought I’d address diving.

Players like Luis Suarez seem to be strangely susceptible to ‘slipping’ on the now very frosty grass and earning an advantage and this is at first thought a disgrace, a betrayal of our beautiful game. We all hate cheaters (cough Lance Armstrong cough) and for a team to lose by unfair means is not right.

However, it may be incorrect to make the divers out to be ‘fall guys’ (see what I did there?). In many aspects of professional sport, we accept that victory should be won by any means possible, so why not diving? Simulation is just indicative of the competitive situation football is in. As a result, we should embrace divers. Just not Suarez. Not him. Ever.

What do you think? Post in the comments below. Like and follow for more, I’ll see you around the weekend. Thanks for reading.
